Govt approves Rs 2,256 cr project for GST integration

GST IntrigationThe Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has endorsed the Project Saksham. The project will integrate GST with CBCE’s (Central Board of Excise and Customs) IT system.

State for Finance Minister Shri Santosh Gangwar has said in the Parliament that the government has sanctioned Rs 2,256 crore outlay for Saksham project, which will strengthen the information technology (IT) network for the new GST regime.

An amount of Rs 2256 crore would be used up on this integration, and the initial enhance would ensure that the integration allows Pan-India rollout of Goods & Service Tax before April 1, 2017. The amount would be spent in the next seven years.

As per the government’s statement, the Project Saksham will integrate different innovations from Finance Ministry, and bring it under the GST regime, which will link with the CBCE’s internal system directly, and enable an identical way of collecting taxes, Pan-India.

The project expands the Indian Customs’ SWIFT (Single Window Interface Facilitating Trade) and other tax-payer-savvy initiatives under Digital India for CBEC, said the minister.
