In a volatile trading session with BSE Sensex settled the day at 29,485.45, down 33.29 points or 0.11%, while the broader Nifty50 closed at 9,121.50 down 5.35 points or 0.06%. In the broader market, BSE Midcap index slipped 0.4%, while the BSE Smallcap index dipped 0.2%. The market breadth, showing the overall health of the market, was weak. On the BSE, 1,689 shares declined and 1,096 shares rose and a total of 189 shares were unaffected.
Axis Bank and Idea Cellular and Dr Reddy’s Lab, were top laggards on both the indices, while ITC, ONGC and Grasim were the top gainers.
Avenue Supermarkets, entered into the list of the top-100 most valuable companies in terms of market capitalisation following a sharp rise in its stock price on debut today. The stock listed at Rs 604.40, clocking a sharp gain of 102% on the BSE against the issue price of Rs 299.
